About Mattan
“This is the real secret of life - to be completely engaged with what you are doing in the here and now. And instead of calling it work, realize it is play.” - Alan Watts
A NOTE FROM MATTAN
The first time I touched a yoga mat, I was hooked. Even though I attended my first class in my early twenties, tired from a night out on the city, I knew yoga would be part of my destiny.
But my path has not been conventional. I don’t consider myself a healer or teacher, instead I believe in providing tools that help empower people to live better lives because that is what yoga, sound meditation, and my teachers did for me. I am devoted to remaining an eternal student, and am honored to share my passions with curiosity and playfulness. Through regular daily practices, listening, and community, my life changed and yours can too.
ABOUT
Mattan was born to Moroccan parents and grew up in Israel. After completing his service in the Israeli air force, he moved to New York City and began working for his family’s olive oil business. Then at the age of 25 he received a yoga class for his birthday that altered the course of his life.
Five years after taking that first yoga class, Mattan finished his university degree in International Marketing and made the decision to take some time off, move to India, and deepen his yoga practice. In some of the happiest and hardest moments of his life, Mattan spent six months traveling around the country studying Buddhism and Hinduism, leading kirtans, and becoming a 500 hour certified yoga instructor. He has now completed over 700 hours of yoga training, including teaching yoga to kids.
When Mattan returned to NYC in 2017, he worked as the general manager of WOOM Center, a holistic wellness studio in Manhattan. At WOOM Center Mattan brought his love of yoga to the New York community and also discovered the power and practice of sound meditation. Eventually, Mattan’s interests in environmentally conscious practices brought him back to the corporate world where he became Director of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility for large olive oil companies and farms. He continued his spiritual practices on the side and started to lead sound meditations and train facilitators. Realizing that his passions lay in these practices, he left the olive oil business and began intensive studies in somatic trauma therapy, wellness coaching, and sound.
He now guides a program that intertwines sound, plant medicine protocols, integration, and wellness coaching.
